External
There are a variety of external continuing education opportunities available through employers, national and international associations, as well as for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. The following list cannot capture all external providers but is intended as a starting point:
- Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB): ASWB provides a searchable course listing, with the option to specify in-person or distance learning. All providers have been reviewed and approved as part of ASWB’s Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program.
- Canadian Association of Social Workers (CASW): The Continuing Education menu of CASW’s website has links to on-demand webinars as well as other opportunities.
- Canadian Association of Social Work Education (CASWE): CASWE, in partnership with the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN) and Association of Faculties of Pharmacy of Canada (AFPC), have produced an Opioid Use and Opioid Use Disorder Education Resource. This e-resource includes 8 modules as well as webinars on the topic.
- Canadian Psychological Association (CPA): CPA has a formal accreditation process in place for reviewing and approving organizations as continuing education providers. The offerings are designed to serve psychologists as well as other disciplines, including social work.
- Department of Children, Seniors, and Social Development: Social workers employed with the department can use this NLCSW resource to determine the number of hours that can be claimed for completion of individual training modules.
- Memorial University:
- Providing Culturally Safe Health Care for Indigenous Patients in NL: This online course is designed to help improve clinical professionals knowledge and know-how about engaging in culturally safe practice with Indigenous patients, their families, and their communities.
