Following a thorough recruitment process, NLCSW is pleased to welcome Sheila Monk to the position of Associate Director of Quality and Practice. A graduate of Memorial University, Sheila completed her Bachelor of Social Work in 2012 before pursuing her Master of Social Work degree in 2019, further strengthening a commitment to evidence-informed practice and professional excellence. Sheila has been a leader in the field of child protection with extensive experience supporting the children, youth, and families across Newfoundland and Labrador.
Through leadership roles within child protection, Sheila has advocated and collaborated to improve outcomes for vulnerable populations. Throughout her career, working with this demographic has driven her desire to oversee consistent progress in the field. In addition to frontline and leadership experience, Sheila has actively contributed to the advancement of social work education and professional practice through her service on Field Education Subcommittees at Memorial University. This work reflects a deep commitment to mentoring future social workers, strengthening academic-practice partnerships, and promoting excellence within the profession.
As NLCSW’s Associate Director of Quality and Practice, Sheila’s work will focus on advancing the quality of professional social work practice by engaging in quality assurance activities including the development of practice resources, facilitating continuing education, providing ethical guidance, and public education/engagement. Sheila will officially start in the position on June 15, 2026. NLCSW’s board, committees, and staff look forward to working with Sheila to advance our vision of Excellence in Social Work.
