Social Work Month Message from NLCSW Board Chair, Stephanie Mealey –
March is National Social Work Month. This year coincides with the 100th anniversary of the Canadian Association of Social Workers (CASW) – a significant milestone. During Social Work Month, this milestone will be celebrated with the theme Reflecting on our Past, Reimagining our Future. The theme recognizes the profession’s legacy with a commitment to the future of the profession.
Newfoundland and Labrador currently has 2000 registered social workers throughout our province and across varied areas of practice. Social workers in our province are committed to providing high quality social work services with professional integrity.
NLCSW’s 2025-2028 Strategic Plan details the collective vision, mission, core values and strategic goals of NLCSW and a renewed commitment to our vision: Excellence in Social Work. The strategic goals of Regulatory Leadership, Practice Excellence and Engagement form the pillars of how we intend to move forward.
In Newfoundland and Labrador, our social work profession is spread across diverse practice areas and all social workers must adhere to our Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice. As a profession, social work is respected and continues to make a positive impact, provincially, nationally, and internationally.
During Social Work Month, I encourage all social workers across Newfoundland and Labrador to take time to reflect on your practice. Consider our past as a profession and how we move forward with respectful engagement. Take pride in being a Registered Social Worker.
As Chair of the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Social Workers, I wish all social workers throughout the province a Happy Social Work Month.

Stephanie Mealey MSW, RSW
NLCSW Chair, Board of Directors
